Fulcrum - A fulcrum is the point where a lever rotates. The closer this point is to the load, the less force is needed to lift the load.
Work - Work describes when what happens when a force acts on an object and makes it do something. For example, lifting a box up to a high shelf is considered work because the force you are using is moving the object. Pushing against a brick wall however does not do any work because the wall is not moving.
Force - Force is the amount of effort you put into moving an object. So if you push down on a lever and move a block, the force is how hard you are pushing. When you pull on a pulley, the force is the measurement of how hard you are pulling.
Load - Load is used to describe the weight that you are trying to do work on. When lifting a piano, the piano is the load that you are trying to use force upon to do work.
Friction - Friction describes the force acting on an object from the ground. Friction explains why it is hard to slide your shoes against concrete but easy to slide them against ice. Friction exists on all surfaces, some more than others. The less friction there is, the less work you have to do!
Fixed Pulley - A fixed pulley is a pulley that has a wheel and axle that does not move. Fixed means fixed in place or unmovable.
Movable Pulley - A movable pulley is actually attached to the weight it is trying to move! You can move the pulley back and forth by using force on one end of the rope!
